social media policy

This policy outlines how I navigate as a mental health professional in the online sphere and how you can expect me to respond to potential interactions that occur between us via social media platforms. This policy is in place to reassure you that I will maintain confidentiality of our therapeutic work together. This policy is not meant to deter you from sharing that you are in therapy with me.

As a counsellor, it is my priority to keep our therapeutic relationship confidential and and will only be reconsidered if there is harm to self, others, or if a Court of Law subpoenas counselling records.

I will only provide on-the-surface responses on social media and will advise connecting with me on more private means of communication such as email or phone. What you reveal in online communications is your responsibility to your privacy.

Friending
I will not accept friend requests from current or former clients on any social media platform. This creates the possibility of blurred boundaries of our therapeutic relationship. Please contact me via email if in between sessions.

Following
I will not follow you back in order to maintain professional boundaries and to ensure your online presence does not impact our therapeutic work. You are welcome to use your discretion in choosing whether to follow me on media platforms such as the practices’ Instagram. I do not follow current or former clients.

Interacting
Please do not message me through social media platforms via direct messaging or other means of communication that can be viewed publicly online if we maintain a client/therapist connection. I will remove any comments or dialogue that puts your privacy and confidentiality at risk.

Any content of yours that is accessibly publicly online will not be viewed by me and I will avoid any potential of this to keep our work together as organic as possible.
